Glen McCarthyTeaching Students to Improvise

I am comfortable with teaching students how to improvise, but I have no idea how to provide the accompanying chord progressions.

Here are a few ideas.

1. Fortunately, CDs and mp3 players (iphones, ipods, etc.) were made for improvisation. The reason these are valuable is because the progressions are played for minutes which gives you time to experiment and improvise.
2. Specialized hardware is also available – Roland/Boss makes a loop-pedal into which you can plug your guitar.
3. You can also record yourself playing a chord progression and loop it.
