It is necessary to work in micro-steps. Work slowly and thoroughly. Do daily, individual assessments. Do not move forward until it is apparent the class is ready to move forward.
There is a deception that occurs in a guitar classroom, the larger the class, the greater the deception. When the entire class is playing, based on a mathematical formula of chance, there is an illusion that the class is progressing and learning new skills quickly. Yet, when doing individual assessments, it is apparent that students are not learning as it appears.
This is the reason for doing daily and weekly assessments. Take the time each day to hear individual students demonstrate the skills being taught in the classroom even if it is not for a grade. Do not push forward until it is apparent that the majority of the class members have accomplished the weekly lesson.
